Our History
" We do not know when Live Oak was born in the mind of God, but it was born in the mind of man in 1974, eight years before it actually opened in 1982. "
"Brief History of Live Oak"
Mrs. Winona Ward, Charter Board of Trustee
Live Oak was her dream. Mrs. Ward inspired many with her passion of creating a premier retirement community in the Shreveport area. Two of the original charter Board members continue to dedicate their time and energy to Live Oak - Mr. Herman Williamson, Jr. and Mr. George Schurman. In addition to these three individuals, Live Oak is a dream-come-true of a group of dedicated local citizens who saw the need for a multi-faceted, multi-faith retirement center at a time when choices were extremely limited.
For seven years they planned and worked, overcoming numerous obstacles to make Live Oak a reality. In 1982, Live Oak Retirement Community opened our doors immediately becoming the first registered Continuing Care Retirement Community in the state of Louisiana. We have been faithfully serving the diverse needs of seniors ever since. Each year brings more opportunities to reach new benchmarks in our quality of care and level of services to our retirement community.
